A Dream of Spring

Two violins and piano (2015)

This piece started its life as a setting of an E. E. Cummings poem and was written in memory of six UCSB students that were killed on May 23rd, 2014. While the score is for two violins and piano, it would work equally well for any two treble instruments, two violas, flutes, clarinets. The piano accompaniment was intended to evoke the mood of Schubert's Ave Maria and also waves and motion of the ocean. The two trebles alternate and weave over the surging turmoil before gently coming to rest.
